Bible Challenge: Mark 1:16-20

Take-Home Principle:

I will heed the call of the Lord without hesitation, to follow Him and lead others to Him.

A. Discovery Questions

  1. What was the profession of the first few men whom Jesus called to become his disciples?
  2. What did Jesus call the fishermen to do, and what will be of them?

B. Understanding Questions

  1. Why did Peter, Andrew James and John unhesitantly heed to the spontaneous call of Jesus for them to follow him?
  2. Why do you think Jesus chose these fishermen in the story to become his disciples?
  3. What does it mean to become “fishers of men”?

C. Application Questions

  1. Have you ever been in a situation wherein you were called by God to do something and sacrifice an important/vital aspect in your life?
  2. If God would suddenly call you to a certain ministry (e.g., become a frontier missionary, or to minister to the urban poor), how would you respond? Would you drop everything or “count the cost” and pray about it first?
  3. In the story, Jesus chose men with a very humbling profession. Have you been in a situation wherein you’ve been filled with insecurities after being asked to do something under the shadow of people who are much more successful and influential than you? Share your story with the group and encourage one another to discuss some action steps.
