Bible Challenge: John 10:1-18

Take-Home Principle:

I will seek to know and follow the voice of the Lord Jesus Christ, who has given me an abundant life.

A. Discovery Questions

  1. Who is the one who enters the sheep pen through the gate? What are the characteristics of the one who entered through the gate?
  2. How did Jesus describe himself in v.7? What is the result of entering through the sheep pen through Jesus? (v. 9)
  3. Who does Jesus say he is in v. 11? What does Jesus say he does for his sheep compared to the hired hand in v.12?

B. Understanding Questions

  1. In verses 1 and 2, who do you think Jesus meant by those who enter the pen by the door and by those who climb in some other way?
  2. Why do you think it is important for the sheep to know and follow the voice of the shepherd?
  3. What did Jesus mean when he said in v.7 that “He is the gate for the sheep?”
  4. Who do you think is the hired hand that Jesus talks about in the passage?

C. Application Questions

  1. These days, a quick search online can yield a slew of information about anything under the sun. How will you discern the voice of the Lord amid all that you read or watch online? What steps will you take to know His voice amid that of the world?
  2. Was there a moment in your walk as a Christian where following the Lord led you into an uncomfortable or difficult situation? What promise of the Lord did you hold on to as you faced a road that was not easy or doesn’t make sense during that time?
  3. What is your understanding of an abundant life? Share with others how you are living an abundant life as a follower of Christ. How has your life changed as you committed to following the Lord?
