Take Home Principle: 

“I will be careful to wholly obey and love God (intellectually, emotionally, and physically) so that my family and the generations to come will follow suit.”

Discovery Questions

  1. What was God’s single commandment to Israel before they entered the ‘Promised Land’?
  2. How were the Israelites to carry out God’s commandment?
  3. What benefits will the Israelites receive if they will obey God’s commandment?

Understanding Questions 

  1. Verses 4-9, known as the “Shema” (Hebrew: “Hear”) is the most essential declaration in the Jewish faith. What is the most important thing that God expects them to do? Why?
  2. What can we learn from this Old Testament model of parenting and discipleship inside the home?

Application Questions

  1. If you are to rewrite verses 7 to 9 in our current time and in your own context, what will be read?
  2. Read verse 3. The phrase “be careful to obey/observe” appeared 15 times in Deuteronomy alone. What does this statement mean and remind you to do?
  3. How have you been discipling your family members?  What struggles or challenges have you encountered? If you have not yet discipled your family members, what keeps you from doing so? What help do you need to be able to do so?

“Magiging maingat akong susunod at magmamahal sa Diyos ng lubos (sa isip, damdamin, at pangangatawan) para tularan ng aking pamilya at ng mga susunod pang henerasyon.”

Pagtuklas

  1. Ano ang utos ng Diyos sa Israel bago sila pumasok sa ‘Lupang Pangako’?
  2. Paano dapat isasagawa ng bayan ng Israel ang utos ng Diyos?
  3. Anu-anong mga benepisyo ang matatanggap ng Israel kung susundin nila ang utos ng Diyos.

Pag-unawa

  1. Ang talatang 4 hanggang 9, na kilala bilang “Shema” (Hebreo: “Pakinggan”) ang pinakamahalagang pahayag sa pananampalataya ng mga Hudyo. Anong pinakamahalagang bagay ang inaasahan ng Diyos na gagawin nila? Bakit?
  2. Anong mga bagay ang matututunan natin tungkol sa ‘Old Testament model’ na ito ng pagiging magulang at pagdidsipulo sa loob ng tahanan?

Pagtugon

  1. Kung susulatin mong muli ang talatang 7 hanggang 9 ayon sa kasalukuyang panahon at sa sarili mong konteksto/ pagkaka-unawa, ano ang mababasa?
  2. Basahin ang talata 3. Ang mga salitang “makinig/dinggin at isagawa” ay mababasa ng 15 beses sa aklat ng Deuteronomy. Ano ang ibig sabihin ng pahayag na ito at ano ang ipinapaalala sa iyo na dapat mong gawin?
  3. Paano ninyo dini-’disciple’ ang mga miyembro ng inyong pamilya? Anong mga hamon ang kinakaharap ninyo?
