Take Home Principle: 

“I will love the Lord my God, and seek to follow him even in the face of discouragement (or in all circumstances).”

Discovery Question

  1. Who were the seven disciples involved in the passage?
  2. What did the disciples struggle with in the passage?
  3. In verses 5 and 6, despite not fully seeing who was calling onto them, the disciples still listened to Jesus’ instructions to them. What were Jesus’ instructions to the disciples and what was the final outcome?

Understanding Questions 

  1. Why didn’t the disciples recognize Jesus immediately when He called out to them? What do you think is the significance of Jesus’ presence and His instructions to Peter and the others who were trying to catch fish?
  2. Jesus asked Peter three questions at the end of the passage. Are these questions all the same? What was Jesus trying to emphasize here?
  3. “From verse 15, why did Jesus ask these seemingly repetitive questions, which were followed by commands? What was he trying to emphasize here?

Application Questions

  1. How about you, do you love Jesus? if the three questions were posed to you, how would you react/respond?”
  2. Have you ever worked hard on something with few or no tangible results? What other situations can you think have discouraged you from following Jesus? How did you respond to this difficulty, and what did you do? As a group, identify steps to relate the message of this passage to scenarios like these.
  3. When you are in a slump and find yourself discouraged, how can you rekindle your love for Jesus and continue following him?

“Iibigin ko ang Panginoon kong Diyos, at hahanapin kong sundan siya kahit na sa harap ng panghihina ng loob (o sa lahat ng pagkakataon).”

Pagtuklas

  1. Sino ang pitong alagad na kasama sa talata?
  2. Ano ang pinaghirapan ng mga alagad sa talata?
  3. Sa bersikulo 5 at 6, sa kabila ng hindi lubos na nakikita kung sino ang tumatawag sa kanila, nakinig pa rin ang mga disipulo sa mga tagubilin ni Jesus sa kanila. Ano ang mga tagubilin ni Jesus sa mga alagad at ano ang huling resulta?

Pag-unawa

  1. Bakit hindi agad nakilala ng mga disipulo si Jesus nang tawagin Niya sila? Ano sa palagay mo ang kahalagahan ng presensya ni Jesus at ang Kanyang mga tagubilin kay Pedro at sa iba pang nagsisikap na manghuli ng isda?
  2. Tinanong ni Jesus si Pedro ng tatlong tanong sa dulo ng talata. Pareho ba ang mga tanong na ito? Ano ang sinisikap ni Jesus na bigyang-diin dito?
  3. “Mula sa talata 15, bakit tinanong ni Jesus ang tila paulit-ulit na mga tanong na ito, na sinundan ng mga utos? Ano ang sinisikap niyang bigyang-diin dito?

Pagtugon

  1. Ikaw, mahal mo ba si Hesus? kung ang tatlong tanong ay ibibigay sa iyo, ano ang iyong magiging reaksyon/tugon?”
  2. Nagsumikap ka na ba sa isang bagay na kakaunti o walang nakikitang resulta? Ano ang iba pang mga sitwasyon sa palagay mo ang nagpapahina sa iyo sa pagsunod kay Jesus? Paano ka tumugon sa kahirapan na ito, at ano ang iyong ginawa? Bilang isang grupo, tukuyin ang mga hakbang upang maiugnay ang mensahe ng talatang ito sa mga sitwasyong tulad nito.
  3. Kapag ikaw ay nasa lugmok at nasiraan ka ng loob, paano mo muling mapapasigla ang iyong pagmamahal kay Jesus at patuloy na sumusunod sa kanya?
