Holy week is a reminder not only of Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins, but also His days on earth. He got hungry and thirsty. He was tempted yet did not sin. He taught and showed how to pray to the Father.
In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus prayed on the Mount of Olives:
42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” (Luke 22:42-46)
The passage shows us how Jesus sought the will of the Father through praying earnestly. Jesus mentioned twice to His disciples: “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” What temptations are lingering around and making noises in your mind today? Temptation comes in different forms and an antidote mentioned by Jesus Himself, after overcoming the temptation of satan, is prayer.
As we remember King Jesus’ death on the cross, let us also remember His word to the disciples – Pray. We invite you to join us in coming before God to praise Him for who He is, thank Him for what He has done, intercede for the church and nation, and invade the impossible.
