KBCF STEP Follow-up Series

KBCF STEP was written as a simple tool and guide for a new believer to grow, and for the “old Christians” who were never discipled to nurture a closer walk with God and be able to also help others to do the same. It will help a new disciple to be in STEP with God.

As you follow Christ, KBCF STEP aims for you to:

  • Know that you are a child of God
  • Believe that the Bible is the Word of God
  • Claim that your answers are answered by God
  • Fellowship with other believers to glorify God

KBCF STEP has 4 lessons, with memory verses of God’s promises and assurances that are basic to your life as a Christian. Christianity does not exempt you from problems. You may actually come across new ones, as Satan will try to discourage you and will make you doubt your faith.

Although KBCFers have adopted another series of follow-up/discipleship material for new believers, this home-grown material will still benefit both the disciple-maker and the new believer if they are willing to commit themselves in going through the sessions in this booklet.

New Life in Christ (NLIC) Follow-up Series

The New Life in Christ discipleship series was originally “designed for new believers, but it can help any believer grow. Many Christians have not been followed up and discipled when they first accepted Christ. Others need to review the basics of Christian living. The material has proven to be useful for believers at all stages of maturity. New and old alike can benefit from a study of New Life in Christ.”

Originally written and published in Spanish, this discipleship series has been translated into several languages already, including Tagalog and Cebuano by Obrero Fiel (www.NewLifeDiscipleship.com).

DUA Questions for Small Group Discussion

The first two (2) resources above deals follow-up materials for the new believer and are essential for one-on-one discipleship. But how about the small groups in KBCF, do they follow a standard material for their sessions? The answer is yes, and it is in the form of the Discovery-Understanding-Application (DUA) Questions.

DUA Questions are posted in this website as blog posts. For small group leaders, DUA Questions and Facilitator’s Guides are shared separately. DUA Question entries are packaged as “Bible Challenge” blog posts in our website.

DUA questions are intended to stimulate group discussion and personal reflection on a passage of Scripture, which is the previous Sunday sermon’s main Scripture reference.

But rather than discuss the sermon, the focus of the small group discussion on the text through the DUA question is to engage with the passage with a central take home principle. This makes the small group more inclusive — even if the small group member or first-time attender has not attended (or watched) the previous Sunday Service’s message, he or she can still interact with the group because what he or she needs is just read through the given Bible passage.

  1. Discovery questions make sure that all small group attenders know the basic information being relayed in the passage — the characters involved, what happened, where and when did it happen, the promises or warnings involved, etc. Reading through the Bible passage will give you the answers to the Discovery questions.
  2. Understanding questions let the members dive deeper into the passage. Given the narrative of the text, insights are being drawn by these questions that lets the members interact and wrestle with the passage.
  3. Application questions make sure that whatever learnings and insights the members have gained during the discussion so far, does not stay in the head but should sink to the heart. The questions allow the members to reflect on their own lives and encourages them how they should apply what they have learned so far into their lives.

One might ask if he or she can just answer the questions by himself/herself. That would also be great, especially if he or she is not yet part of any group. But we highly encourage for you to join and participate in the small groups as we can learn from your insights and you might also learn and be encouraged by the other members in the group as well. Members also minister to each other during the small group session as they reflect on how they can apply the passage and praying for each other.
